Sydney's Produce Guide & Highlights — SEPTEMBER
September marks the beginning of spring in Sydney, bringing a fresh change to the markets. Winter citrus is still producing some fantastic fruit, while spring vegetables and berries are becoming increasingly available.
It’s also one of our favourite times of year for fresh juicing, with an excellent mix of citrus, root vegetables, leafy greens and naturally sweet fruit available.
🍊 Fruits to Look Out For
Blood Oranges
September is one of the last opportunities to enjoy Australian blood oranges. Their distinctive ruby flesh and sweet-tart citrus flavour makes them fantastic for fresh juice.
Oranges
Juicy Australian oranges remain a standout. Drink them freshly squeezed or combine them with carrot, ginger or turmeric for a refreshing morning juice.
Strawberries
Spring strawberries are becoming increasingly plentiful. Naturally sweet and easy to snack on, blend into smoothies or add to breakfasts.
Grapefruit
Refreshing, tart and incredibly juicy. Grapefruit works particularly well combined with orange or apple.
Lemons
A Proper Produce staple. Add fresh lemon to juices, dressings or water for a sharp citrus kick.
Mandarins
Sweet, convenient and easy to eat on the go. Great for families, lunchboxes and anyone looking to snack on more fresh fruit.
Apples
Crisp apples remain a versatile option for eating fresh and are one of the easiest ways to naturally sweeten vegetable-heavy juices.
🥕 Vegetables to Look Out For
Carrots
One of our favourite juicing vegetables. Naturally sweet and particularly good combined with orange, apple, ginger or beetroot.
Beetroot
Earthy, colourful and perfect for fresh juice. Try beetroot with apple, carrot, lemon and ginger.
Celery
A refreshing base for green juices. Pair it with apple, lemon, cucumber or leafy greens.
Kale
A convenient way to add leafy greens to juices and smoothies. Apple, lemon and ginger help balance its stronger flavour.
Spinach & Silverbeet
Excellent spring greens that can be used in cooking, smoothies or small amounts in fresh green juices.
Fennel
Crisp with a distinctive anise flavour. Fennel can be eaten raw, roasted or added to apple and citrus-based juices.
Broccoli & Cauliflower
Cool-season vegetables remain available as Sydney moves into spring. Great roasted, steamed, stir-fried or added to everyday meals.

With a small selection of seasonal produce, you can create multiple different juices throughout the week while still keeping plenty of fruit available for snacking.
Tips for Buyers
Buy Seasonal:
Spring brings changing availability, so take advantage of produce while quality and value are at their best.
Juice the Imperfect:
Fruit and vegetables don't need to look perfect to make fantastic juice. Slightly unusual shapes and sizes can still be packed with flavour.
Keep Your Juicing Staples Ready:
Carrots, apples, citrus, beetroot, celery, ginger and leafy greens give you enough variety to create very different juices throughout the week.
Don't Just Juice It:
The same produce can be eaten fresh, blended into smoothies or incorporated into meals — helping you get more value from your weekly fruit and vegetable shop.
